Gemini visible watermark
When Gemini Apps apply a visible watermark, why that setting does not control SynthID or Content Credentials, and why screenshots from different users can differ.

A Gemini visible watermark is a logo or overlay people can see. SynthID is not visible. A visible Gemini mark, an invisible SynthID watermark, and C2PA Content Credentials are three different mechanisms. Absence of one is not evidence of absence of the others.
What Gemini Apps currently document
Last verified August 16, 2026. Gemini Apps Help documents a Media Watermark setting that controls whether visible watermarks appear on visual media you create with Gemini Apps — newly generated images, a persistent overlay on generated video, and a mark on the visual player created with a music track.
Help is explicit: the setting only controls the visible watermark. It does not affect SynthID or Content Credentials. Documented Gemini Apps behavior is not automatically true of Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, Search, Ads, or other Google products.
Plan, region, and account variability
Current Help states that in India, South Korea, or Vietnam the setting appears only with an AI Ultra subscription; otherwise visible watermarks are applied automatically to visual media created with Gemini Apps. If Gemini Apps access is through a work or school account, the setting is not available and the watermark continues. Those rules are Apps-scoped and dated. This page does not publish a permanent global tier table.
Why screenshots from different users differ
Two people can generate similar Nano Banana images and see different visible marks because their surface, region, account type, or watermark setting differs. One screenshot without a sparkle does not prove the other user “removed SynthID.”
Historical product copy
Google’s 20 November 2025 Nano Banana Pro post said a visible Gemini sparkle would remain on images from free and Google AI Pro Gemini-app users, and would be removed for Google AI Ultra and Google AI Studio. That is a dated launch statement. Current Apps Help is the live consumer-settings source used here.
Visible mark absence is not “no SynthID”
Turning off a visible overlay, cropping a sparkle, or exporting from a surface that never applied a logo does not tell you whether SynthID or C2PA remain. This site will not treat a clean-looking image as unmarked Google AI content.

Current Gemini Apps visible-watermark toggle is Apps-only. India, South Korea, and Vietnam restrict the toggle to AI Ultra; work/school accounts cannot turn it off. The setting does not affect SynthID or Content Credentials.
