Adobe Firefly Content Credentials & Provenance

How Adobe Firefly automatically applies Content Credentials to fully generated assets, what those credentials contain, and what AI Watermark Center can inspect locally.

Adobe Firefly’s documented provenance model is Content Credentials first: tamper-evident metadata, an Adobe issuer, and optional recovery from Adobe’s public credentials cloud. This page is not a Firefly feature review.

Automatic Content Credentials

Adobe states that Content Credentials are automatically applied to assets where 100% of the pixels are generated with Adobe Firefly, such as Text to Image. That scope is generated assets, not every edit of a photograph with mixed pixels.

What the credentials can contain

Firefly Help lists non-personal fields that are always included when credentials are applied automatically:

  • Issuer: Adobe Inc.
  • Issue date
  • Application or device used
  • AI tool used
  • Actions such as Created or Other edits

Additional identity fields appear only if a person opted to include them in other Adobe tools.

Embedded versus cloud-recoverable credentials

Adobe says Firefly credentials are attached to their files and may also be stored in Adobe’s public Content Credentials cloud. AI Watermark Center inspects embedded credentials in JPEG, PNG, and WebP. It does not query Adobe’s cloud. If a file’s only remaining credentials are cloud-stored, this inspector will not recover them.

Adobe Inspect

Adobe’s Inspect tool is the official way to view credentials and, where supported, recover them. That is not an AI Watermark Center feature.

SynthID

Reviewed Firefly documentation focuses on Content Credentials. This site does not infer SynthID usage. The database row for Firefly SynthID is unknown — not “no SynthID.”

AI Watermark Center support

  • Embedded C2PA on JPEG/PNG/WebP: available
  • Adobe cloud recovery: not available
  • SynthID detection: not available
